Popular author opens SWGS Learning Resource Centre

Author Chris Higgins travelled from Cornwall to officially cut the ribbon and open the new purpose built Learning Resource Centre at South Wilts Grammar School on 1st December. A former English & Drama teacher, Chris has written six best selling novels for teenagers since 2006, including her latest book published in October ‘Would You Rather?' During the day Year 8 students had great fun developing their creative writing in workshops run by Chris. The official opening was attended by many invited guests, including the Mayor of Salisbury, Cllr Mrs Bobbie Chettleburgh, and Julie Cathcart, who represented Wiltshire Council.

The spacious new Learning Resource Centre has proved to be very popular, with seating for over 80 students, some 14,000 books and access to 32 networked computers. Students designed the inside of the LRC working in teams to choose furniture and colour schemes. The final result is a bright and modern space created by students for the students.

The Friends of South Wilts helped raise money for the £450,000 project, organising a fabulous Ball in the City Hall, running a book stall and many smaller events. Wiltshire Council also helped financially to make it possible. We are all very proud of our new Learning Resource Centre.
