CLASSICAL CIVILISATION
A LEVEL
Year 12
Students follow the OCR Classical Civilisation AS and study two units.
Unit 1: Roman Society and Thought — As seen in the works and through the eyes of Pliny, Horace, Juvenal and Petronius.
Unit 2: Homer's Odyssey and Society – Students study ‘The Odyssey’ and the aspects of Greek society and culture inherent within it.
Year 13
Students study a further two examined units.
Unit 3: Virgil and the world of the Hero — Students study ‘The Aeneid’ and ‘The Iliad’ (in part) whilst considering Greek and Roman ideas of heroism, the gods, and war.
Unit 4: Art & Architecture — Students analyse Vase painting, Greek architecture and Greek Sculpture.
OTHER INFORMATION
Students will have the opportunity to visit the British Museum in London.
Students will also have the opportunity to attend the Greece trip where we explore a variety of key sites which will enable them to gain a greater understanding and appreciation of the Greek world and its art.
A selection of lectures are held in both London and at South Wilts each year on a variety of classical topics.
