JAS Championships in Bedford

Back in February Alice Elgar, Rosie Sykes, Lucy Pike and Hannah Royle qualified for the NSEA Jumping and Style Championships in Bedford. So in November we set off on the 4 hour journey to Keysoe. Unfortunately Hannah had a knee injury so her place was taken by Frances Elgar, who had only competed at the Intermediate level once before.

Rosie had qualified for the individual class as well, however she was on a new horse so was going for a steady clear. Sadly she had a couple of poles down, but was very pleased overall.
Then came the team round. The course was well up to height, with every fence at 95cm and several large spreads. This worried us all slightly, but we all knew that we could jump them if we really rode every fence. Lucy was first in and she had one run out at the water tray, which Murphy hates, and finished on a style mark of 18 plus 4 jumping penalties. Alice was next and she managed to get Red over the spreads with just one pole down, finishing on a style mark of 20 plus 4 jumping faults. Rosie was in next and had a brilliant round on Molly, until the third last fence, which she had down. She also finished on a style mark of 20 plus 4 jumping faults. Finally Frances went in with Pebbles and produced a lovely clear round finishing on a style mark of 14.

The team was 15th out of 30 and all 4 of us were inside the top half of the competitors. Frances did brilliantly and finished 25th out of 120. We were all really pleased with how the day went and look forward hopefully to going again. (Alice Elgar, Lucy Pike, Rosie Sykes all 9E, Frances Elgar 7A)

Equestrian Success

Alicia Sherborne competed in the national Amateur Championship at Aintree.

Alicia qualified through 2 rounds (starting in June) to reach the British Show Jumping Amateur championships at Aintree Equestrian Centre in Liverpool on her horse Ricardo's Treat.

The competition was over 4 days and is on Sky Sports on 20th December 2009.

She rode in the 1.15m class a clear round and was placed 6th. There were 65 people in the class, mostly adults who ride for a living. (Parent)

National Triathlon Championships

Well done to Phoebe Kalik (7E) who took part in the National Triathlon Championships (running, shooting & swimming) in Wolverhampton on November 14th. She placed 12th in the U13 age category against girls who were older than herself, so a fantastic result. (Miss Salen)
