AEGON Schools Tennis Competition

The U13 squad (Anna Rolfe, Hebe Osmond, Izzy Dickson & Caitlin Hogan-Lloyd) represented Wiltshire to play against King Edward VI School from Southampton on September 22nd.

The team gave their all but were eventually defeated 2 sets to 4. Well done for making it as far as the regional round. (Miss Salen)

Cross Country

The cross country season has once again started with high flying performances both in the local area and in the National Cup competition. We are still waiting for final results from the Amesbury race, however South Wilts was very well represented in all age groups.

Our junior team came 2nd and intermediate team came 1st in the National Cup competition at Stonehenge Monument on Thursday 7th October, both progressing through to the next round at Leweston School on Saturday 13th November. (Miss Salen)

Netball / Hockey

U14 & U16 netball squads both played very well at the Salisbury Area Schools Competition. The U14 team placed 3rd, and the U16 team came 1st so will now progress through to the Wiltshire round representing Salisbury in November.

Well done to all Year 7 netballers and hockey players who participated in the Netball Day at Salisbury High and the Hockey Day at the Wilton Road Astroturf pitch. The girls all worked hard to improve their skills during the morning coaching sessions and enjoyed putting them into action during the tournaments in the afternoon. Many thanks to my fantastic Sports Leaders who ran the drills and tournament for the hockey day so superbly – I could not have done it without you all!

U19 Area Netball Tournament at Wootton Bassett Wednesday 13th October – the squad put in a series of superb performances in the first round to ease into the Cup competition knockout stage. Here they beat Warminster convincingly to progress to the semi-finals and a tough match against New College Swindon.

Despite a valiant effort South Wilts were defeated 4-8, but it should be noted that New College went on to win the tournament and have done so in many previous years. This is the furthest that the U19 squad has ever reached in this County-wide tournament so the girls should feel extremely proud of their achievement. (Miss Salen)

Year 7 A team V Godolphin 10 - 8 SWGS won

Year 7 B team V Godolphin 8 - 1 SWGS won

Both teams played well together especially considering they have not trained together for long. Sarah Brown and Amy Webster made a solid combination in the A team circle and were fed some great balls by Hannah Pickup. Helen Forrest was voted Player of the Match by Godolphin for the A team and Matilda Bryant was the equivalent for the Bs.

In defence for the B team, Phoebe Wing and Lucy Higson made some great interceptions but SWGS need to work on using the space down the court to stretch the opposition. Well done to all who played. (Mrs Hole)
