NSEA Championships

South Wilts Grammar School was very proud to have a team competing at the National Schools Equestrian Association (NSEA) Championships over the weekend of 15th and 16th January 2011 at Addington Equestrian Centre in Buckinghamshire. A team was entered on the Saturday for the NSEA Team Dressage Championships and we had an Individual entered on the Sunday to compete in the NSEA Individual Prelim Dressage Championships.

Our Team consisted of Abbi Pownall-Gray, Bethany Puzio and Alice Pearse. On a windy day the horses were all feeling very lively, and the girls all remained very calm to produce some wonderful tests. Alice Pearse was the first to ride and she kept control of her horse Toby to produce a great test and a score of 63.46%; second in was Abbi Pownall-Gray on Po, she rode a really beautiful test and scored a fantastic 72.50%, placing them 3rd in their arena. Bethany was last to go into her arena. She was the youngest competitor by some four years on the day and Barney was the smallest pony by far; but this did not stop Bethany putting in a fantastic performance to achieve a very respectful 65.83% placing her 8th in her arena and placing the team on an average score of 67.26%. The competition was fierce and South Wilts Grammar School was thrilled to be placed 3rd, with less than 2% separating the first three teams; a fabulous achievement.

On the Sunday Abbi Pownall-Gray competed on Po in the Individual Prelim Dressage Championships. She rode a great test and scored 67.39%; this score was the highest in her arena and so Abbi won her class and is now a National Prelim Dressage Champion! She and Po received a sash in the presentation arena for their achievement.
