SWGS at National Festival of Music for Youth

South Wilts Grammar School
Chamber Orchestra at National Festival of Music for Youth

Following a successful performance at the Regional Festival, South Wilts Grammar School’s Chamber Orchestra was invited to play at the National Festival of Music for Youth Schools’ Orchestra Class held in the prestigious Symphony Hall, Birmingham. The orchestra, one of three orchestras in the school, prepared by its musical director, Richard Parsons of the Wiltshire Music Service, played Corelli’s beautiful Concerto Op. 6 No. 8. The girls were highly praised by the adjudicators for their “professional” sound, stylistic interpretation, accomplished musicianship and excellent communication and performance skills – all achieved in true chamber style without conductor. They were thrilled to be chosen as one of four schools to be given a special award for outstanding achievement.
