Workshop with Salisbury Community Choir and Pro Cantu Choir

Fiona Evans, Poppy Evans' mother, very kindly arranged for us to take part in a workshop being hosted by the Salisbury Community Choir with Mike Brewer, conductor of the National Youth Choir, and Pro Cantu Choir from South Africa. About fifty girls from our various choirs were able to attend on a Sunday morning early in July. Mr. Brewer taught us a series of lively warm-ups and vocal exercises which were great fun and then went on to coach the visiting choir. It was a thrilling experience listening to their wonderful sound and music. We especially enjoyed being taught an African song and dance by them and then listening to a short but stunning impromptu concert which they gave to end the morning.

Summer Concert

The last music concert of the Summer Term was one not to be missed. Solo and ensemble performances varying from Boccherini's Quartet in C major to Abba's Mama Mia! made this event a very special ending to the South Wilts musical year.

Despite the absence of many Year 11s and Year 13s, ensembles flourished, giving an opportunity for many of the younger students to shine. Wind Band's rendition of music from The Lion King was little affected by the reduction in number, proving to be a very moving experience. The Training Orchestra performed Carribean Nights, which had been specially arranged by our Music PGCE student who left recently. Both the Junior and Chamber Choirs sang beautifully and the many soloists gave a diverse and interesting programme.

Many thanks go to all involved, particularly the accompanists, directors and peripatetic teachers who prepared all the performers so well in the run-up to the concert. Also, a huge well done to all performing students!
