South Wilts Grammar School is a single academy trust. Its governing board comprises:

• 1 Headteacher Trustee
• up to 13 Member-Appointed Trustees
• up to 5 Parent Trustees
• any number of Co-Opted Trustees

Trustees come from various professional backgrounds and contribute different skills. A mixture of experienced and newly appointed Trustees provides the benefits of both continuity and a fresh approach to the Governing Board.

The main Trust Board meets at least once a term. In the intervening weeks the Committees, Education and Experience (EdEx) and Resources, Audit and People (RAP), give detailed consideration to issues and make recommendations to the full Trust Board.

Members of the Resources, Audit and People (RAP) Committee are concerned with the financial management of the school and people.  From the Business Manager they receive financial reports throughout the year.  They also consider health and safety issues and matters relating to the premises. An internal audit is carried out by professional auditors and the committee’s job is to scrutinise in more detail the work of the financial officers of the school. The Committee also considers such matters as staffing, pay and conditions, wellbeing, EDI, admissions and professional development.  Applicants for all senior teaching posts are interviewed by Trustees.

The Education and Experience (EdEx) Committee is at the heart of the school as it deals with all matters relating to educational provision.  Its members have to keep up-to-date with curriculum changes and consider how such changes impact the school. This Committee receives regular reports from the Safeguarding Link Trustee and will monitor student assessment and achievement to ensure that every child is being given the opportunity to achieve their full potential. This Committee also meet staff from various departments across the school to hear of their work, plans and join some of their lessons.

All meetings are minuted by the Governance Professional and minutes are circulated to all Trustees.  The Headteacher, Deputy Headteachers and members of the Senior Leadership Team are fully involved in the work of these committees and act in partnership with the Trustees.

Trustees attend different school events throughout the year, feeding back to the Board either by report or at full Board meetings.
