Air Pollution Monitor
Wiltshire Council’s Wiltshire Community Air Network (WCAN) is running a one-year project to monitor PM2.5 air pollution across the county. SWGS is one of 100 sites across the county hosting an air sensor. The sensors measure PM2.5 air pollution (PM2.5 refers to atmospheric particulate matter (PM) that have a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres, which is about 3% the diameter of a human hair). These small particles in the air can increase the risk of health problems and can also be damaging to the environment. Sources of P2.5 include power stations, motor vehicles, aeroplanes, residential wood burning, forest fires, agricultural burning, volcanic eruptions and dust storms.
