Post 11+ selection process
Late Entry is a term applied to the admission into Years 7 to 11 of a pupil at any point other than the start of Year 7. For students who missed the 11+ test, the late entry is an opportunity to sit an entrance exam and it is considered part of the post-11+ selection process.

Forms must be completed and submitted by the deadline for the required test date as shown below.
If your daughter has additional educational needs or any barriers to learning, you can request additional assistance when taking the late entry test in the form of special access arrangements. Guidance can be found on the Access Arrangements page.

Applicants sitting the late entry test in June will sit the test for entry into the next academic year (i.e. if a student in currently in Year 8 they will sit the Year 9 entry test).

Can I Look Around the School?
Unfortunately, we do not provide individual tours of the school. If a student passes the late entry test, then they will be given the opportunity to have a tour of the school prior to making a final decision about joining SWGS.
What is the Test Format?
Testing is conducted online and is provided by GL Assessment. Applicants for years 7- 9 will sit maths and English tests. Applicants for entry into years 10 or 11 will sit a science test alongside the maths and English tests. There will be breaks between each of the tests.
Practice papers are not available for the late entry test.
Please note that if the applicant has already sat an 11+ test for SWGS then they will not be eligible to sit a late entry test for entry into year 7.

Section 2: Understanding and application of process
ENGLISH (65 minutes)
Section 1: Spelling, punctuation and grammar
Section 2: Reading comprehension – both fiction and non-fiction age-appropriate passages
SCIENCE (60 minutes)
Individual content for biology, chemistry and physics as well as questions on a more general application of scientific knowledge and skills.

My daughter has passed the late entry test – what happens next?
If you have been informed that your daughter has passed the late entry test then you will need to complete an in-year transfer application available from the Wiltshire Council website https://www.wiltshire.gov.uk/schools-learning-admissions-online stating your requested start date at SWGS. The applicant may or may not live in the County of Wiltshire.
If there is a space available for your daughter, then she will be expected to start at SWGS at the beginning of the next full term (end September if sitting the early September late entry test). If there are no spaces available, then your daughter will be placed on a waiting list until the end of the current academic year or until she is top of the list and is offered a space.
If your daughter is in Year 10 or 11 or sitting the Year 10 or 11 late entry test, then it is important to know whether South Wilts Grammar School will be able to support her through her GCSE options if she is successful in gaining a place. Therefore, before a place is offered, the Admissions Officer will contact you to discuss your daughter’s GCSE options at South Wilts Grammar School.
