The Board of Trustees of South Wilts Grammar School is very pleased to announce the appointment of Dr Amanda Smith as our next Head Teacher from September 2024.

This comes as Mrs Michele Chilcott retires from South Wilts Grammar School in August after over 20 years’ service to the school and 13 very successful years as Head Teacher.

Dr Smith joins us from Poole Grammar School where she is currently Head Teacher. Dr Smith is a scientist and brings excellent leadership experience gained during four years at Poole Grammar School and previously as Deputy Head Teacher at South Wilts.

Dr Smith said: “I am delighted to have been given the opportunity to take on this role and return to South Wilts. It is an absolute honour and privilege to be the next Head Teacher of a school that I know has such a strong ethos, culture and commitment to diversity and girls’ education.”

Mrs Chilcott added: “Dr Smith and I will be working closely to ensure an effective handover to help a smooth transition. I am sure you will join me in wishing Dr Smith well when she takes up her new position in September.”

Mr Nick Lay, Chair of Trustees, said: “After an extensive and rigorous process to find our next Head Teacher, we are thrilled to have been able to appoint somebody with the drive, ambition and compassion to lead the school forward and to deliver the Trustees’ vision for the future.”
