During Year 7 students cover the basics of French grammar and pronunciation in a variety of contexts. Topics covered include: personal details, family and pets and school as well as phrases to use in a French town. Students are introduced to the notion of noun, gender and regular and irregular verb forms. Students are also introduced to the basic skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing.

In Year 8, French students build on the work begun in Year 7. They continue to develop their listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. New grammar topics include using the irregular verbs aller and faire, and we consolidate the use of regular -er verbs and adjective agreemens. The topics are At Home and Daily Life, in a French Town and Free Time. We continue to work on pronunciation and confidence with speaking.

In Year 9, French students build on Year 7 and 8 work. They continue to develop their listening, reading, speaking and writing skills. New grammar topics include using two verbs together, including modal verbs and using aller + the infinitve to refer to future events, as well as an introduction to the past tense. The topics are Going out, Food and Drink, Recent Events, Health and Healthy Lifestyles, Music, TV and Film and Holidays. We continue to work on pronunciation and confidence with speaking.
