Pupils explore:

• Worldviews, belief and faith – an introduction to RS, religious and non-religious worldviews, faith and belief, religion (Ninian Smart’s seven dimensions) and beliefs about God (including via negativa)
• The life of Jesus, including Jesus in other worldviews (Islam, Judaism, Hindu Dharma, Sikhi and Humanism)
• Spirited Arts Competition – a global competition inviting students to explore religious and non-religious issues in a creative way
• An introduction to Buddhism – why is there suffering?
• Initiation and commitment within Christianity, Buddhism and Humanism

Pupils explore:

• The concept of miracles – a comparison of different Christian understandings alongside Judaism, Islam, Humanism and Philosophy
• Death: Is it the end? – a focus on different Buddhist understandings alongside Christianity, Judaism, Islam and Humanism
• An introduction to prejudice focusing on antisemitism and the Holocaust, with consideration also given to the issue of Islamophobia

Pupils explore:

• Philosophy: How do we know anything? What is reality? An exploration of Descartes and Plato
• Ethical theories: How do we know right from wrong? An exploration of theistic and non-religious ethical theories in relation to the issues of driverless cars, genetic engineering, the use of animals and veganism
• After February half term, students study their first GCSE topic: Religion, Human Rights and Social Justice (Component 2 of the GCSE course)

• Islam

In Year 11 students look at four different topics:

• Religion and Life
• Religion, Peace and Conflict
• Religion, Crime and Punishment
• Religion, Human Rights and Social Justice is the fourth and final topic for Component 2, however this is studied in Year 9
