Congratulations to Iola in Year 8 who swam at the Swim England National Summer Championship 2023 in the 50m, 100m and 200m U12/13 breaststroke, earning three medals including one Gold!
The competition took place in the Olympic size pool (50m) at Ponds Forge, Sheffield. It is the final competition of the swimming season and the highlight of the swimming calendar.
To qualify for the event, Iola had to be in the top 20 swimmers in England in her age group U12/13 at the end of the qualifying period in May. From May to August there is intense training and dedication to be ready for the main event.
Iola excelled in all her heats and raced in the finals to achieve podium successes:
🥇Gold 100m Breaststroke – National Champion
🥈Silver 50m Breaststroke
🥉Bronze 200m Breaststroke
These times place Iola 2nd/3rd/5th in Britain at the start of the new session.
Iola swims for the Salisbury Stingrays Swimming Club performance squad and trains locally at Five Rivers Leisure Centre, Godolphin School pool and occasionally at Bath University pool.
