On behalf of the Trustees of South Wilts Grammar School, it is with sadness that I announce the retirement of Mrs Michele Chilcott from her role as Head Teacher at the school at the end of this academic year.
This marks the end of an era; Mrs Chilcott has served South Wilts with dedication for 20 years – her first 7 years as a member of the Senior Leadership Team and then a further 13 years as Head Teacher.
Mrs Chilcott’s leadership across this period has seen the school grow and develop, most recently with the successful introduction of our co-educational Sixth Form. Her performance during the pandemic was outstanding, providing staff, students and parents with clear guidance as we all navigated uncharted waters. Combined with her decision to participate in PHE trials, this enabled SWGS students to achieve educational outcomes that weren’t possible elsewhere.
Mrs Chilcott is leaving a sound legacy. The school is strong and stable: we have increasing numbers of students applying to the school each year both at 11+ and into our Sixth Form, we have passionate and committed staff who do superb work for our students, and we continue to have outstanding exam results at both GCSE and A level. We are in a strong position financially, which is enabling the school to plan with confidence for the future.
The Trustees are now starting the recruitment process to appoint a new Head Teacher for September.
