We are delighted to announce that Mr Fagan-King has won Music Educator of the Year, Young People’s Choice 2024, at the Wiltshire Music Education Awards 2024.
Following a glowing nomination, a panel made up of Wiltshire Music Connect and two independent contractors made the final decision. The awards ceremony took place last night at St Margaret’s Hall in Bradford-On-Avon.
Mr Fagan-King joined SWGS in 2019 as Head of Music and, with support from his team, has been instrumental in holding show-stopping concerts and performances.
The nomination stated that Mr Fagan-King ‘has all the attributes of a perfect music teacher. He is inclusive of all musicians from all music genres and backgrounds, and all grade ability levels. He pushes his students towards excellence. His knowledge of both what is required from the curriculum and of extracurricular topics, especially with his background in music technology, allows him to add extra depth and insight when discussing and enjoying the topic of music. He has created music ensembles and groups for every type of musician and is a champion for students looking to create their own bands or ensembles. Most importantly he is determined to give us the best experience in the music department, every day without fail.’
Mr Fagan-King remarked, ‘Music is a huge part of life at SWGS, with the majority of students studying music, learning a musical instrument or taking part in one of our many ensembles and choirs. Our aim is that the department caters for all ages, abilities and musical tastes, and that everyone enjoys their music making. It is a pleasure to develop, harness and showcase the talents of our students, and I thank them all for making the Music Department a truly joyful place to be!’
