South Wilts Grammar School was invited to speak at the Holocaust Memorial Day civic service at the Guildhall yesterday. The event was curated by Sarah Gregson (Head of Community Services) and the theme for this year was ‘For a Better Future’. It started with the Stockholm Statement and followed with talks from different organisations (e.g. Disability Interest Group Salisbury) and from individuals who shared personal recollections. Students were shown pieces of artwork that were created during the Holocaust as part of the ‘Created in Darkness’ aspect of the service. Poetry and song also formed part of this emotive and moving memorial service.
Our students were asked to share their experiences of what Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) means to them, what we do as a school to promote EDI and what it means to our school community.
Students had the opportunity to meet the High Sheriff of Wiltshire Dr Olivia Chapple and Deputy Lieutenant Dr Phil Harding. Thank you to Sarah Gregson for inviting us to be a part of this service.
